Wonder what causes them to go blotchy like this?

i dont know, i have several of these, all reclaimed from a derelict shopping centre, these had not been used in over 25 years maybe longer

Good old tubes eh, these seem common at my local tip and I always snatch them when I see them

There are a lot of die hard BLI fans out there but I think in all honesty these were better tubes FACT the philips tubes all the way up to 8 foot used to go like this! Not anymore though!

what causes the blochy patches all over the tubes? they look shit lit up, well dim also

These blotchy tubes are very common in Philips 34 watt lamps in USA. It when lamp starts up and the sputter burns the phosphor creating blotches.

This looks like a twin Superslim.

I've seen spotty-ness like that on 34 watt lamps...I've also seen the cause: on startup sometimes (especially if its slow in starting) ther'll be little 'sparkles' of light jumping around in the end... Really don't know how to explain it other than that.
Note: that's on rapid-start...I can't see the same thing happening on switch-start. Is this fitting quickstart or SRS by chance?
