Cold cathode 8w (5w) tube running on standard switchstart
Another tube running on switchstart, this one however is actually cold cathode and runs perfectly starting with the glow bottle starter within a few attempts. The electrodes actually come coated with emmitter which is meant to improve their efficiency but also allows this to work. The lamp does however rectify slightly and is dimmer than a normal 8w tube because of the higher voltage drop but on the plus side the ballast runs cool. The gas fill is a penning mix of argon and neon at 8 milibar, just a touch higher than in a normal fluorescent tube.
